I suppose an easy resolution is too much to ask for.

Semi Mandatory Joseph Kony Post
For the record. I was not initially planning on making one. However, a post I saw last night inspired me to do so (a map of Africa asking one to point out where Uganda is and calling the movement bullshit). I have rather a lot to say about this whole thing in general so I will start with that and digress to the other things I have to say.
So. Let us all agree that the Holocaust was awful. Somewhere in the range of 6-8 million Jews, Slavs, Communists, Gypsies, mentally and physically handicapped and a variety of others. Systematically. Thousands at a time. Tell me where Auschwitz was. Or Treblinka. Or any other extermination camp is. Or even tell me who the world held responsible for these crimes at the Nuremberg Trials. I would be fairly willing to bet that you cannot. And that is fine. That does not change in the slightest that genocide is wrong and that what Hitler did was atrocious. So you can call the movement bullshit because people don’t know where Uganda is if you want. Or you can understand that this is our generation standing against those people who believe genocide is okay. This is not about JUST the invisible children. This is the people of the United States standing up and saying that we do not believe this is okay in any context and will not stand for it. So no, people’s lack of knowledge does not make this movement bullshit. It means that you do not understand the scope of this campaign.
To those that have been claiming that you do not support the organisation because of possible corruption. Well here are a couple of things to consider. First of all, invisible children does not stand alone on this. They are supported by amnesty international, which would be a great avenue to support this movement even if you do not feel comfortable supporting invisible children directly. Furthermore, in every organization there is corruption which in this case may not even be significant to you (depending on whether or not you have heard this). It is a flaw of man, but that does not mean that the organization as whole is not helpful or good. See the Haitian part of the Red Cross. Mission groups do not even tell them they are coming because the corrupt nature of that faction is so ridiculous. But the Red Cross is still a vitally important form of helping nations abroad (and here) recover from natural disaster. Same with this. The organization is still doing good and making everyone very aware of what is happening in Uganda.
Thus, I support the invisible children and the movement to stop Joseph Kony. I do not believe that murder and torture is acceptable in any circumstance but especially within a civilian population. I stand against genocide and this is one place that we all can stop one. I hope that this has hopefully changed a few of your perspectives on the subject.
